DClinPsy
Qualifications & Training
I completed the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) at Newcastle University, after completing a Msc in Child Development at UCL (Institute of Education) and a PGDip in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy at Royal Holloway, University of London.
I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Systemic Therapy (family and couples therapy), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
Approach
I am a HCPC Clinical Psychologist and BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) psychotherapist based in Newcastle.
I have extensive experience working within the NHS and supporting individuals with challenging personal difficulties. I currently work as a lecturer in clinical psychology at Newcastle University. In my private practice, I follow closely the NICE guidelines issued by the department of health for the treatment of common mental health difficulties (anxiety and depression) and the evidence of what treatment is most effective, as such I primarily use a CBT framework. In addition, I also draw on a range of other psychological theories, and approaches to enhance my practice (attachment theory, EMDR etc.).
My particular expertise lies in supporting people affected by trauma. Having worked for four years in a specialist trauma service in London, I am passionate about helping individuals recover from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex‑PTSD. I am trained in Trauma‑Focused CBT, EMDR, and Narrative Exposure Therapy, and have also supported clients with OCD, social anxiety, depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), panic disorder, health anxiety, phobias, and sleep difficulties.
Being human is complex, none of us choose our family or circumstances, but with the right support, recovery is possible. Many of our habitual responses are driven by powerful instinctive patterns which, at times, can deepen our suffering. In therapy, we work together to recognise these unhelpful patterns of thinking and coping, and to take steps towards living more authentically. Change can feel overwhelming, but I aim to provide a safe and warm presence to guide you on your journey to wellbeing.
In my practice I primarily use CBT and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), while EMDR is available as an evidence‑based treatment for PTSD. At our first session, we will complete a thorough assessment and develop a shared understanding (formulation) of your difficulties. Together, we will decide on an approach best suited to your needs. Since completing my Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) teacher training in 2020, I often integrate mindfulness into my therapeutic work.
I also bring experience in supporting racially minoritised individuals and queer clients as they navigate complex transitions, workplace dynamics, and family or community challenges. My commitment is to provide an inclusive, collaborative space where all aspects of your identity are celebrated.
